I met Nancy at my Cousin Tony’s house sometime in March of 1980. I remember Tony telling me, “Wait until you meet this Italian girl that is coming over tonight.” The minute she walked in the door I knew she was the girl for me. At the time we were both dating other very nice people, but it was clear that we were meant for each other.
We had so much fun while learning and growing together and on May 19, 1984 we were married. From our rented apartments to our home in Franklin our lives were near perfect and every day we had together was special. Nancy loved our big families and cherished her relationships with her special friends. It would be way to hard and unfair to leave anyone out so I won’t even attempt to name them, but they know who they are.
Of all the accomplishments (and there were many) each one was huge until the next one was in sight and being prepared for. The last big one was the RAAM Race Across America was so important to her and I am so blessed that we were part of that team. She had always wanted to do that. I remember she copied me an email and I thought “here we go again.” Having competed in my share of big things I can tell you just crewing was the hardest thing I have ever done. I was overwhelmed, freaked out and amazed and awed by the beautiful sights along the way. When we were done, many people asked if we would do it again. I said, “Gee I don’t know.” I figured if Nancy did it again I had no choice.
She said, “Yes I think so, but I would like a smaller team so I could ride more miles.” That was true Nancy. The Love of my Life.
